Graduation Tickets

Calvin recently announced that President Bush will be speaking at commencement this Saturday. After many negative views about the image this presents for calvin, tickets are still highly in demand. Through a loophole in Calvin's Knightvision site many students have been sending emails to the whole class begging for extra tickets. On the black market, I have seen individuals selling tickets for $75 dollars, which is banned by the school (but oddly this seller
is using a Calvin service to host his auction).

After some thinking with friends I decided to play a little joke and send an email to the class stating that "I have available tickets" and "I have three tickets to the fieldhouse on Saturday." Within several seconds I had a reply asking for how to obtain it. Within 30 minutes I had twenty-two response pleading for a ticket (one from a chair of a department). Now I have received two phone calls and over 120 responses. Including an email from the Grand Rapids Press desiring to talk to me as they are writing about the ticket situation forcommencement.

Here are some interesting excerpts:

"how much?" (notice how they assume you have to pay for them)

"can I have just one? I assume you are giving them away. I won't commit a crime and buy one, but I will gladly accept your offer."

"I'm sure you've had tons of offers for your tickets, but on the off chance that you haven't, I could really use those tickets. I have family coming in from Atlanta and feel really bad if they're stuck in the FAC. I would be willing to pay for them, except for I interviewed Shirley Hoogstra about grad tickets for a class and would feel really bad if I paid for them since she harped about it. Anyway, please let me know if you're willing to give them up! I'd really appreciate it!Thanks."

"I would very much appreciate a ticket. Thanks again for this chance, otherwise one person of my immediate family will be sitting bythemselves in the FAC." (notice how they are playing off guilt)

"Do you by any chance still have 1 ticket for the fieldhouse?

"Has any one replied to you regarding your tickets yet? I am a single mom graduating. My three boys are able to be in the fieldhouse, how;ever, i've had to split up my parents, to utilize only the 4 allotted. Please let me know if they are still available. Thanks,"
